Hi everybody, this is Zen Honeycutt of Moms Across America, and I am coming to you today with some really disturbing information. I just got my Freedom of Information Act back yesterday from the CDC and I’ve now submitted this information to lawyers. What has happened is that I submitted a Freedom of Information Act to the CDC and the FDA a little over three months ago because I wanted to know about any and all: records, documents, memos, advisements, statements, letters, rules, laws, policies, lab results, tests, agendas, minutes, or any other form of mention of glyphosate or glyphosate-based herbicides in any and all vaccines. Moms Across America tested five childhood vaccines and found glyphosate positive in all five of them. You can get up to speed with that story here: [ http://www.momsacrossamerica.com/glyphosate_in_childhood_vaccines ] The MMR vaccine was twenty-five times higher than the other childhood vaccines, and this was extremely disturbing. We shared this information with a close circle of scientists that we know, and one of them tested fourteen more vaccines, and he released that information to the CDC and the FDA last year. Because he had confirmed our results, we then went ahead and also released our information to the CDC and the FDA. They came back and said, vaccines are totally safe. They did not answer our question when they responded about whether or not they would test for glyphosate in vaccines. They just completely did not answer the question at all. They just said vaccines are highly tested…very safe. A big problem, right? The FDA also came back and said that they were discontinuing further testing for glyphosate in anything…they said anything because they questioned the reliability of the methodology. Now, why do you think they would do that? Why would the FDA suddenly stop testing everything for glyphosate the same week that I got a letter from the FDA which skirted the question regarding glyphosate in vaccines? I think what happened is that the FDA ( or the manufacturers) did indeed test for glyphosate in vaccines and they confirmed what we found. They found glyphosate in all of the vaccines. And, they know the implications of that. That would ruin the pharmaceutical industry. For those of you who don’t know, glyphosate has shown to break down the blood-brain barrier, and allow toxins into the brain. Toxins such as aluminum, mercury, polysorbate 80, formaldehyde, and the many, many others in vaccines which you can find listed on the CDC website. There are also the co-formulants that are in the glyphosate herbicide, which have been found to be a thousand times more harmful. I believe the FDA found glyphosate in vaccines, and they don’t want to release that information to the public. Therefore, they are just no longer going to test for glyphosate in anything anymore. Because of this, I requested a Freedom of Information Act about 4 months ago to find out what happened. (www.foia.gov). I received responses back stating that they were going to be working on it, so I know they looked into it. The CDC sent me a letter about a month ago claiming it is not their issue but rather the FDA’s issue! Yesterday, I received a letter from the CDC saying that we are giving you the information that we got from the FDA. I got fifty-six pages; FIFTY-SIX PAGES. It says some pages contain records that originated with the FDA and are obscured. After careful review of these pages, some information was withheld from a release pursuant to five USC 522 exemption. So what does that exemption look like? Blank pages! Every once in a while, we see an email saying “We need to respond to this, what do we say?” And then, more blank pages…more blank pages! What is the FDA hiding? What did they say? Why are they doing this? They say that information held under this exemption is protected under the deliberative process privilege. This protects the decision-making process of government agencies and materials that are both pre-decisional, and deliberative. The information withheld consists of draft documents. So whenever they are thinking about something or deliberating over it, they don’t have to release that information. They only have to release the decision that they made about it. So what decision did they make about it? Then what they get into is the other scientist’s information, his name is Samsel. He did his study independently, (from Moms Across America’s study as well). He tested fourteen vaccines. They only mention his science. They don’t show any documents of the test results that I sent them. They don’t show any of my letters. All they talk about is the letter that Samsel sent them and my results. His results are pretty high, and pretty damning, as well. So they show me that, but I’ve seen that already. Then they say, “We’re getting more public inquiries on glyphosate, and we decided to develop a general CDC response that we can recycle. Attached is a draft of the standard response that we plan to use when these inquiries come in. These are individual responses to public inquiries and not an official CDC control correspondence.” So because that’s a draft, what do I get to see? Nothing. I get blank documents. They get to hide their decision-making process, what they are saying, who they are collaborating with and they are legally protected. So is this freedom? Is this a Freedom of Information Act? Is this democracy? Is this what we are paying for with our tax dollars? I don’t think so. I think that more of us need to do Freedom of Information Acts. We need to get more lawyers on board. We need to make sure that the public is who is paying them with our tax dollars is holding the FDA accountable to do their job. Because we allow them to do it with our tax dollars, we need to be able to see the information, and what goes on inside the FDA. And here’s the facts folks; if they didn’t find glyphosate in vaccines, they would have told us that, don’t you think? They would have made that loud and clear. They have done nothing. They’ve told us nothing, and I think that is because they have tested. They have not put out anything to say that glyphosate is NOT in vaccines. As I said, glyphosate in vaccines means it’s breaking down the blood-brain barrier and is allowing the toxins into the brain. I’ve got to say this, mercury has been in vaccines since 1929. There was no huge spike in autism in 1929. The huge spike of autism came when glyphosate and GMOs were introduced into the food supply in the late 1990s. It is in the animal feed supply. The animals eat grains with over four hundred parts per million of glyphosate. Those animals eat those grains. It goes into their tendons and their bone marrow. Those tendons are ground up and made into gelatin. Gelatin is in vaccines. I just looked at a high dose flu shot. Gelatin is right in there. I believe my father was vaccine damaged last fall because there’s gelatin in that flu shot. He had to get surgery. He almost died, and I am mad about this. I am mad that they know that glyphosate is in vaccines, and they’re not protecting the public, and so we need to do something about this. We need you to share this. We need you to comment. We need other people to do Freedom of Information Act Requests for the CDC and the FDA, but most importantly, we need to educate each other. Glyphosate got into the animal feed supply and into our food in the late 1990s… ( same time as autism spike) Glyphosate weedkiller is destroying the gut bacteria, and it’s breaking down the blood-brain barrier. Both of those cause mental, behavioral disorders; ticking, stammering…autism symptoms and our children are being damaged, and some of them are being permanently damaged. Enough is enough. This has to stop. I’m asking everybody to please inform each other. Inform your doctors. If you can do a Freedom of Information Act, it takes a few minutes. Just Google “Freedom of Information Act,” and you can make the request to the FDA to find out more information. We are taking this to lawyers. We are not going to stop. We will not give up because the love for our children will never end, and you can count on Moms Across America. (We’ve got flyers. We just printed fifty thousand more.) When we eat organic, this makes the farmers move towards growing organic. they’ll stop growing crops using GMOs and chemical farming. The animals that eat the feed will not be eating GMO glyphosate sprayed grains anymore, and we can potentially get glyphosate out of vaccines. When we do that; I’m not saying that’s going to end all the problems, and I’m also not saying that’s the only thing that’s harming our children, but it will reduce the ability for those toxins in the vaccines to cause harm. (They also have to take out Polysorbate 80 because it also contributes to the factor.) We’re all in this together; GMO activists, health freedom activists, chemical aerial spraying; all the chemical companies are poisoning us, and the chemical companies and industrial farmers are one and the same. We’ve got to take matters into our own hands. If we don’t buy it, they can’t sell it. We’re going to keep going! Please share our movie, Communities Rising. As the National Vaccine Information Center prepares to host the three day, three night Fifth International Public Conference on Vaccination that will be broadcast online Oct. 16-18, 2020, the theme we have chosen is Protecting Health and Autonomy in the 21st Century, because at no time in modern history has it been more important for all of us to take a stand and do just that. This year, the orchestrated actions by governments around the world to restrict or eliminate civil liberties in response to the emergence of a new coronavirus has been unprecedented, and it has had profound effects on the global economy and on the physical, mental and emotional health of billions of people. 1 By mid-September 2020, there were about 29 million cases of the new Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV-2) reported worldwide with about 925,000 associated deaths. The United States, the third most populated country in the world at 330 million people, had recorded over seven million cases and 198,000 deaths, with an estimated 598 deaths per million people, which is a higher death rate pthan Sweden, 2where health officials have refused to order masking or lock down the country and allowed the population to acquire natural herd immunity to the virus. 3 4 Overall COVID-19 Mortality Less Than One PercentAccording to the World Health Organization (WHO), the overall mortality rate for the new SARS coronavirus causing COVID-19 is about 0.6 percent, 5 although some scientists say it is lower, 6 while others estimate it can be as high as one to two percent in some parts of the world. 7 Compared to Ebola with a 50 percent mortality rate 8or smallpox, at 30 percent; 9 tuberculosis at 20 to 70 percent; 10 diphtheria at 5 to 10 percent; 11 or the 1918 influenza pandemic with a 2.5 percent mortality rate, 12 COVID-19 is near the bottom of the infectious diseases mortality scale with a less one percent mortality rate in most countries. Those at highest risk for complications and death include the elderly and those with one or more poor health conditions. 13 The CDC recently reported that only six percent of COVID-19-related deaths were solely due to coronavirus infection and 94 percent of the people who died also had influenza or pneumonia; heart, lung or kidney disease; high blood pressure; diabetes, or another underlying poor health condition. 14 Most studies suggest it is rare for children to suffer complications and die from COVID-19. 15 But seven months after the World Health Organization 16 declared a coronavirus pandemic, 17 and public health officials persuaded lawmakers to turn the world upside down, a lot of people are asking questions and so are doctors who disagree with each other about the facts. Questions like: Where did the new respiratory virus come from? The most popular narratives about the mutated coronavirus is that it either jumped out of a bat or another animal in a Chinese wet food market 18 19 or escaped out of a biohazard lab in 2019, 20 21 but scientists continue to argue about which scenario is more likely. 22 And this question: If I wear a cloth facemask, does it really prevent me from getting infected with or transmitting COVID-19? There is an ongoing debate in the medical community about whether it is a good idea for all healthy children and adults to wear cloth masks when they leave their home. 23 In March 2020, the US Surgeon General ordered the American public to stop buying and wearing masks because “they are not effective in preventing general public from catching coronavirus” 24 and “actually can increase the spread of coronavirus," which was the position of the World Health Organization. 25 But in April, the CDC walked back its “do not mask” order and urged all healthy Americans to voluntarily wear homemade cloth face coverings when entering public spaces. 26 In June, the World Health Organization was continuing to say that, “At the present time, the widespread use of masks everywhere is not supported by high-quality scientific evidence, and there are potential benefits and harms to consider…Masks on their own will not protect you from COVID-19,” 27 But by June, a number of state Governors and local governments had mandated facemask wearing and an epidemic of mask shaming had begun, 28 29 which led to public protests against masking mandates.30 In August, the CDC doubled down and expanded face masking directives to include all children over the age of two, 31 while the World Health Organization warned that children under the age of six should not wear masks but children over age 12 should. 32 So confusion reigns. While some scientists are saying that if all healthy people are forced to wear face masks it will not stop the coronavirus pandemic and gives a dangerous and false illusion of safety, 33 other scientists are demonizing the refusers, alleging that people refusing to mask up are “sociopathic” and have lower levels of empathy. 34 About 30 U.S. states require masking for young children and adults who enter public spaces, 35 and some states are leveling steep fines of up to $1,000 or threatening jail time for anyone who fails to comply. 36 Washington state has made not wearing a mask in public a misdemeanor crime 37 and central Texas officials say they wish they could put people in prison for refusing to wear a mask. 38 More than 50 countries in the world now require people to cover their faces when they leave home and some do fine and imprison people who go outside without wearing a mask. 39 So what about getting tested for COVID-19? The CDC says that people should get tested if they have COVID-19 symptoms or have been in contact with someone who has been diagnosed with the infection. There is also an antibody test to identify whether or not you have been infected in the past. 40 But lab tests are not always reliable and people are asking this logical question: If I get a lab test, will it accurately identify if I am currently infected or have been infected with COVID-19 in the past? Unfortunately, it’s not clear how accurate any of the tests are, especially the antibody test for past infection because the presence of antibodies may not be the only way to measure immunity. 41 The best guess is that the range of reported false negative results for the nasal swab test is between two and 50 percent, and the reported false negative results for the antibody blood test is up to 30 percent, depending upon when during or after the infection testing is performed. 42 In July, a state lab in Connecticut admitted that 90 out of 144 people tested during a 30 day period - most of them nursing home residents - were inaccurately informed they were infected because of faulty, false positive lab tests. 43 In August, 77 football players in the National Football league were given false positive test results when, after retesting, all the tests came back negative. 44 People are also wondering about what happens after they get COVID-19, asking this question: If I recover from COVID-19 will I only get temporary immunity or will I have long-term immunity against re-infection? The CDC says it is unknown how long immunity lasts or whether you can get the new coronavirus infection twice. 45 However, last spring researchers found that out of 68 uninfected persons, the blood from one third of them contained helper T-cells that recognized the mutated SARS coronavirus. They concluded the presence of these defensive helper T cells gives evidence for some residual immunity that may have been produced after common cold infections caused by other types of coronaviruses. This, the scientists said, “bodes well for the development of long-term protective immunity.” 46 Another important study was published in the medical literature in August providing evidence for robust memory T cell immune responses in people who had recovered from even mild or asymptomatic cases of COVID-19 but had no detectable virus-specific antibodies. 47 If people can have strong immune responses without symptoms and traditional antibody tests for proof of immunity don’t apply to COVID-19, public health officials may be underestimating the extent of population-level herd immunity that already exists in the U.S., where there have been more cases reported than anywhere else. COVID-19 Public Health Laws A Public Relations DisasterWhile doctors debate the science, it is becoming clearer that the response to the new coronavirus infection by government health officials has been a public relations disaster. The anxiety, fear, and chaos created by regulations instituted by most governments after the declaration of a COVID-19 pandemic in March 2019 has torn the fabric of societies and affected public opinion about public health laws and vaccination. 48 Now the people are being told that there is one - and only one - simple solution to resolving the crisis and getting back to normal: that is, the only way we can take off our masks and touch, hug, kiss, or come close to each other again 49 50 51 52 53 54 is for every person living in every country to get injected with one of the liability-free COVID-19 vaccines being fast tracked to market. 55 56 57 58 59 In April, World Health Organization officials at the United Nations launched a global initiative “to end the Covid-19 pandemic, ”proclaiming that, “no one is safe until everyone is safe.”60 By May, they were warning that if every person in the world doesn’t get injected with a COVID-19 vaccination, the virus “may never go away.” 61 The World Health Organization, 62 US government 63 64 65 66 and lawmakers in the European Union, 67 along with wealthy and politically powerful non-governmental organizations (NGOs) like the Gates Foundation, 68 69 70 GAVI, the Vaccine Alliance, 71 and Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) 72 have given the pharmaceutical industry tens of billions of dollars to develop and fast track experimental coronavirus vaccines to market and promote their universal use. 73 74 At the same time, governments have given pharmaceutical companies a liability shield from lawsuits when COVID-19 vaccines injure or kill people. 75 76 The hard sell is on, but a lot of people are not buying it. People Are Rejecting the COVID-19 Vaccine Sales Pitch Every poll taken this year has revealed that between 40 and 70 percent of people living in the U.S. and Europe don’t plan to get a COVID-19 vaccine when it is licensed. 77 78 79 80 81 82 Populations in developed countries are resisting the siren call for “solidarity,” as doubt about COVID-19 vaccines is becoming more common in developing counties, too. 83 Apparently, the pushback by a wary public has taken government officials by surprise. Apparently, they were banking that the economic and social deprivation, fear and chaos surrounding lockdowns would produce a bull market for experimental mRNA and DNA COVID-19 vaccines using technology that never has been licensed for humans. 84 It is widely acknowledged now that a solid two-thirds of Americans or more will “just say no” to getting injected with a vaccine containing lab altered parts of a new coronavirus that scientists admit they still don’t know much about, 85 vaccines that preliminary clinical trials have revealed may well cause more than just a few minor reactions. 86 A frustrated top U.S. health official has name-called Americans, who refuse to go along with public health policies and laws, calling them “anti-science” and “anti-authority.” 87 88 The truth is, people in this country and many others just don’t have confidence in the quality and quantity of the science or government health officials they are being told to trust. 89 Angry that a growing number of people are reluctant to roll up their sleeves for a vaccine that is being rushed to market at “warp speed,” public health officials, 90 billionaire Silicon Valley technocrats, 91 92 93 doctors, attorneys and bioethics professors, 94 95 96 97 98 and politicians 99 are beating the drum for swift enactment of “no exceptions” mandatory vaccination laws as soon as COVID-19 vaccines are licensed. 100 Already, some cheerleaders at leading universities are banging that drum for approving and using experimental COVID-19 vaccines even before testing is done, 101 and are calling for young, healthy people to be the first to get the vaccine because it is their “civic duty” to protect everyone else. 102 They warn that “herd immunity may not be achieved if people refuse to take the coronavirus vaccine, 103 104 and say that, in order to keep society “safe,” laws must be passed to threaten and coerce you and your minor children to get vaccinated or face crippling social sanctions that will effectively take away your liberty and destroy your life. 105 People in U.S. and Other Nations Rise Up to Protest Lockdowns, Defending FreedomThis summer, huge public demonstrations defending freedom in Berlin, 106 London, 107 Paris 108 and Copenhagen saw tens of thousands of citizens gather to protest masking 109 and other oppressive coronavirus lockdown policies, which have severely restricted normal physical contact between people, caused widespread unemployment, 110 and harmed their physical, mental and emotional health. 111 Like in Europe, people living in Canada, 112 Australia 113 114 and New Zealand 115 also are resisting months of social distancing policies that have eliminated fundamental human rights, such as freedom of speech and assembly. The U.S. has seen similar but smaller public demonstrations opposing forced masking, social distancing and lockdown laws and defending freedom in Virginia, 116 Pennsylvania, 117 Wisconsin, 118 Michigan, 119 California 120 and other states, as record numbers of Americans struggle with unemployment, 121 122 the destruction of small middle class businesses, 123 mortgage defaults 124 and bankruptcy filings; 125 steep increases in anxiety and depression, 126 127 drug and alcohol addiction, 128 child and spousal abuse, 129 and divorce. 130 Social Sanctions for Failure to Get Vaccinated May Align with Lockdown SanctionsThe punishing social sanctions being talked about if you refuse a COVID-19 vaccination are likely to be enforced using government-operated electronic tracking systems linked to digital “immunity passports” that require you to “prove” you are immune to the new SARS coronavirus before you are allowed to work in an office building or enter other public spaces. 131 132 133 134 These social sanctions for failure to vaccinate may closely resemble the types of social interaction restrictions enforced in the U.S. and other countries over the past year. In the U.S., most public health laws, including vaccine laws, are enacted by the states, 135 while the federal government makes vaccine use recommendations and can mandate vaccines for people crossing national or state borders. Local city and county governments also can impose their own public health regulations. 136 That is why some states and cities have seen very restrictive COVID-19 pandemic masking 137 and lockdown regulations 138 and others have been more open. 139 So whether or not you will be punished for refusing to get a COVID-19 shot next year primarily will be determined by your state’s Governor and the representatives who have been elected to make laws in your state Capitol. 140 Depending upon where you live and the political philosophy of the majority of representatives in your state legislature, after the COVID-19 vaccine is licensed by the federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and recommended by the CDC for use by all children and adults, 141 if you refuse to get a COVID-19 shot, you could be blocked from: 142
In other words, if you refuse to get a coronavirus vaccination, you could be subjected to the kinds of punitive social sanctions I have been predicting and publicly warned about since 1997, 143 144 145 146 sanctions that are already being applied to Americans who decline to get or give their children dozens of doses of CDC “recommended” liability free vaccines 147 and already are being denied an education, medical care, and employment. 148 149 Broken Promises Leads to Broken TrustDoctors and public health officials wondering why people don’t trust what they say about infectious diseases and vaccination, including coronavirus and COVID-19 vaccines, only have to look in the mirror to answer the question. Since 1982, parents of vaccine injured children have been begging doctors to do the kind of science that will explain why so many highly vaccinated children, who don’t get measles or chicken pox anymore, are stuck on sick and suffering with brain and autoimmune disorders that never go away. 150 For four decades we have been asking doctors and government health officials to stop sweeping casualties of inhumane one-size-fits all vaccine policies under the rug. 151 What we get from medical professors in universities receiving lots of money from the government and pharmaceutical companies, and from doctors developing vaccines, and from public health officials pushing “no exceptions” vaccination policies is threats, name-calling, bullying and punishment if we try to exercise informed consent to vaccination. 152 153 154 There is no other word for it but abuse. They order us to obey them but refuse to take responsibility for what happens when we obey the orders they give. They expect us to trust them and refuse to care about the victims of vaccination when the benefits do not outweigh the risks. The Five Argentinian Scientists Further Revealed “Studies have also demonstrated that the exposure to GBHs alters the development and differentiation of ovarian follicles and uterus, affecting fertility when animals are exposed before puberty.” Glyphosate herbicides do not wash, dry, or cook-off. Our children are eating these residues in food thousands of times before puberty. In landscaping use, 90% of runoff into our streams, oceans, swimming, and drinking water is from city use of pesticides. Our city sprays glyphosate herbicides in order to have “clean” looking sidewalks and playgrounds. Which impacts our daughters who are playing barefoot in their neighborhoods. These exposures could unknowingly be causing reproductive damage to girls long before they reach reproductive years. What our daughters are exposed to when they are two effects whether or not they will be able to have a child when they are twenty-two. Monsanto has known for decades that their glyphosate products could cause miscarriages.In the Monsanto Trials the discovery process revealed that a study stated, “…although the results suggested, they failed to prove that glyphosate causes miscarriages.” Donna Farmer, Monsanto’s lead toxicologist, crossed out the words “although” and “suggested”, leaving the sentence to read, “The results failed to prove that glyphosate causes miscarriages.” This is an assault on motherhood; a crime against humanity. Her action retracted vital information from the scientific community which could have led to further studies on the connection between glyphosate and miscarriages. How many mothers have lost their precious, sacred babies because of Donna Farmer and Monsanto? What has America lost, as a whole, due to the human beings that are not here and will not contribute to our families and society because of the use of this herbicide? This silence must be broken. Mothers who have lost children must be heard, not threatened, and denigrated. Females must be protected and afforded the right to procreate if they wish to someday. Your mom always told you that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Of course, mom’s always right. But does the science back her recommendation up? From an array of studies, scientists have demonstrated the efficacy of breakfast for a variety of health benefits. The number of these benefits also increase if that early morning meal is higher in protein, particularly in the form of a protein-dense shake. Here is a running list that should give you more reasons to start every day with a nutritious, high-protein meal. Or, better yet, a protein-dense meal-replacement shake: 1. Improved Concentration and Memory From large observational trials, mainly targeted toward children, breakfast is shown to be strongly associated with improved concentration and memory (1) Scientists suggest that this is due to breakfast’s immediate impact on blood sugar to fuel young brains (2,3). In one of the largest systematic reviews that included more than 40 studies, eating breakfast compared to skipping breakfast was strongly associated with enhanced cognitive function, learning, and memory in adolescents and children (3). In addition, breakfast was linked to improved mood, reduced feelings of tiredness, and enhanced academic performance (3). 2. Improved Nutritional Status Eating breakfast daily is consistently associated with having an improved nutritional status. The likely reason is because the morning meal compared to other meals generally consists of foods that are higher in protein, fiber, and vitamin and mineral content (4). These include whole-grain cereals, fruits and berries, and dairy products like milk or yogurt. From another systematic review of more than 47 observational studies in children and adolescents, consistent breakfast eaters are associated with an improved overall nutritional status compared to their breakfast-skipping peers (4). Interestingly, the kids who ate breakfast consumed more calories daily compared to breakfast skippers, and yet were less likely to be overweight. 3. Improved Energy Expenditure Here’s at least one explanation for why breakfast might have a positive impact on weight management – increased energy expenditure from physical activity. In a randomized controlled trial, scientists showed that eating breakfast led healthy adults to be more physically active and increased the likelihood that they would exercise during the day (5,6). That increased energy expenditure from physical activity may represent a notable burn of additional calories supporting weight management, although the researchers didn’t note an impact from breakfast on overall metabolism. 4. Improved Metabolism (with more protein) More protein at breakfast could be the key to improving metabolism. In a long-term study on participants attempting to lose weight, a diet higher in protein (1.5 g/kg/d) versus a diet normal in protein (0.8g/kg/d) increased thermogenesis and energy expenditure after meals (7). In a short-term section of the same study, the scientists also evaluated the effects of a breakfast meal consisting of 30 percent protein on metabolism (7). They found that the high-protein breakfast led to improved metabolism, higher fat oxidation (fat burning), and lower perceived hunger throughout the day. 5. Improved Control of Hunger A high-protein breakfast’s ability to satisfy hunger can have direct impacts on weight management. One randomized crossover trial compared eating a high-protein breakfast (35 g protein) with a normal-protein breakfast of equal calories (350 Kcal) and breakfast skipping in overweight late-adolescent girls. After 12 weeks, the study found that the girls who ate a higher-protein breakfast led to improved satiety and a reduction in reward-driven eating (8). Notably, the girls who ate breakfast higher in protein consumed fewer high-fat evening snacks and didn’t see any weight gain during the trial compared to the girls who skipped breakfast or ate a normal-protein breakfast (8). 6. Normal Blood Sugar Balance In another randomized controlled trial, scientists compared the impacts of three equal-calorie breakfasts – high-protein, high-fat, and high-carb – on the blood sugar of 20 healthy adults (9). After breakfast, the subjects followed up by eating a 50g piece of white bread or a glucose drink of equal calories. The researchers reported that only those who had consumed a high-protein breakfast had an attenuated postprandial rise in glycemic response (9). 7. Improved Muscle Maintenance A daily high-protein breakfast also helps adults with maintaining more muscle as they get older. Because of a blunted anabolic response that comes with age, scientists suggest that older adults should consume meals containing 30 to 40 grams of protein three times a day to maximally stimulate muscle synthesis (10). Breakfast represents an important target for intervention for older adults because lunch and dinner are typically when adults consume most of their daily protein. 8. Improve Sleep During Weight Loss Finally, a higher protein intake supplemented with a protein-dense shake in the morning can help protect against the sleeplessness caused during a weight loss regimen, according to the findings of two recent randomized controlled trials. The first trial found that overweight adults who get more protein earlier in the day got to sleep earlier and had fewer waking episodes during the night (11). A follow-up pilot trial also demonstrated that a whey-based shake consumed at breakfast led to better satiety and sleep efficiency, which is a combination of falling asleep earlier, total sleep time, and perceived sleep quality (12). Rest easy! As it turns out, science suggests breakfast is still the most important meal of the day. But for best results, make it a portion-controlled meal higher in protein. How Does COVID-19 Affect the Body?After the incubation period, the virus moves into the lungs where it begins its replication process. When this occurs, the immune system releases a plethora of inflammatory cytokines and chemokines to initiate and drive the immune response. At this point, three factors can occur which determine whether an individual experiences few symptoms with a good outcome or becomes severely ill.
Cytokine Storm Immune overdrive from the virus can cause a cytokine storm which injures the host cells. The cytokine storm involves high levels of proinflammatory cytokines such as IL-6, IL-10, and tumor necrosis factors (TNF-α) being released. Acute resiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) can occur as a result of the cytokine storm. Complement System In some individuals who are infected by SARS-CoV-2, the activation of the complement system induced by the virus becomes unrestrained which causes inflammation, endothelial cell injuries, thrombus formation, and intravascular coagulation. Microcirculation blockage in the lung can lead to decreased oxygen intake. When the epithelia of the vascular system are severely damaged, it triggers blood clot formation which, along with the cellular debris that falls off from the lining, can block the body’s circulation in other organs. Patients can develop severe circulatory problems such as deep venous thrombosis and thrombotic arterial complications resulting in serious conditions. T Cell Levels The outcome of COVID-19 has a wide spectrum of symptoms ranging from asymptomatic, mild response with symptoms just like the regular flu, to terminally ill. Researchers have tried to identify the cause of the difference and have found that the mild form of COVID-19 have healthy levels of circulating T cells including CD4 and CD8. T cell exhaustion markers and serum cytokine levels from 522 patients with COVID-19 and 40 healthy controls showed that in COVID-19 patients requiring Intensive Care Unit (ICU) care the number of total T cells, CD4+, and CD8+ T cells were dramatically reduced. In summary, the unfavorable clinical outcome in some individuals with SARS-CoV2 infections are caused by multiple factors which include a cytokine storm that causes ARDS, unstrained complement activation which causes epithelial damage and blood clot formation, and low circulating T cell levels which renders a decreased immunity to the viral infection. I worry that I am not getting enough because I don't eat seafood. We all have foods that we don't like and seafood is mine. I don't take supplements. Because of this, I am constantly aware that my body may be lacking. I vary my cooking oils and use canola oil when I need a flavorless oil, I eat walnuts regularly and use them in foods like pesto (instead of pine nuts) and add them to breads, and I eat eggs that contain omega-3 fatty acids. Vitamin CNope, it won't free you from the common cold forever, but getting enough vitamin C does boost your immune system and provide antioxidants for preventing chronic diseases. If these foods aren't in your typical repertoire, consider supplementing with 75 mg vitamin C daily. Add an additional 35 mg per day if you're a smoker. Vitamin D"A few years ago, I got tested at my doctor's office and it turned out that I had very low vitamin D levels. I wear sunscreen daily and work indoors so I knew that my access to vitamin D through sunlight was pretty limited. I started taking a vitamin D supplement daily and also try to include good sources of vitamin D in my diet every day, like eggs (keep the yolks for the vitamin D!), salmon or tuna, and cheese. IronVegetarians miss out on one of the richest sources of iron—beef. Thankfully, iron-fortified breads and cereals, as well as legumes—kidney beans, chickpeas, white beans, and lentils—are excellent sources for iron. Iron is essential for healthy blood, growth, and development. No surprise then that pregnant women need significantly more iron (27 mg per day) than non-pregnant women (18 mg per day). Dietitians who are pregnant can usually be found with iron supplements in their cupboard to enrich their diet. CalciumThis is my weakness: Because I've never liked milk or yogurt, and I limit my cheese intake due to genetically high cholesterol, calcium is the nutrient I struggle with. I rely on almond milk, tofu, kale, almonds, and sneaking Greek yogurt into recipes. Even so, I do not meet the recommended intake level of 1,000 mg per day. Calcium is essential for bone health, especially with my family history of osteoporosis. Supplements help me reach that goal every day. ProbioticsEssential for healthy gut function, and potentially helpful for mood regulation and improvement of allergies, probiotics can be difficult to come by in a regular diet. Foods rich in probiotics include fermented foods such as kefir, tempeh, sauerkraut, and miso, or fortified yogurt. If these aren't part of your routine, a supplement may be a good call. Choline"This is a nutrient that most Americans (89 percent!) aren't getting enough of, and it's now pegged a nutrient of concern by the 2015 to 2020 Dietary Guidelines. The Dietary Reference Intake (DRI) is 550 mg. Because many of the great choline sources are things like beef, salmon, and chicken, it can be hard for vegetarians like me to get enough. So on days that I know I'm not eating enough vegetarian sources, I'll take a supplement. Vitamin EFood allergies to certain nuts (sunflower seeds, peanuts, almonds, hazelnuts) or oils (corn, safflower, soy) can interfere with ability to consume enough vitamin E. With the DRI for adults of 15 mg, these allergies or very-low-fat diets affect adequate intake. Even dietitians admit to the investment of supplementing vitamin E. A powerful antioxidant, vitamin E may prevent chronic diseases and improve immune function. FiberEssential for healthy gut function, but also shown to play a role in the prevention of cardiovascular disease and certain cancers, fiber is lacking in the typical American diet. The recommended dietary allowance (RDA) for adults is 25 grams per day. Without a strong presence of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains in your day, you will struggle to reach this goal. Sneaking fiber into breakfast smoothies with fresh berries or ground flaxseed or eating a high-fiber cereal first thing in the morning makes for a great start to the day. Vitamin B12"Vitamin B12 is hard to get enough of as a vegetarian since many of the good sources are animal-based. While I aim to eat foods like eggs and dairy that contain vitamin B12, I often don't get enough, so I do take a supplement daily. Vitamin B12 is important for important bodily functions like production of red blood cells and proper maintenance of the central nervous system." --Gorin MagnesiumYou may be surprised to learn that magnesium is essential in more than 300 metabolic functions. It's hidden in a variety of foods, including almonds, spinach, cashews, shredded wheat, beans, and soy milk, so it's certainly possible to eat enough through diet alone. However, if you're one of those super picky eaters, you may not get enough. Most multi-vitamin/mineral supplements contain magnesium, so that can cover your shortfall. Vitamin K"I fall short on vitamin K which works with vitamin D to strengthen bones. Those taking vitamin D need adequate vitamin K (among other things like calcium) to help build and preserve bone. Try to get as much as you can from food sources via dark leafy greens, beans, scallions, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, and prunes (dried plums).
