Sit Tall to Stoke Metabolism

Daily Health Tip for November 16:
It’s well documented that a sedentary lifestyle is a fat maker, but mostly that’s attributed to lack of activity: no movement going on to burn calories. In fact, sitting for more than 30 minutes at a stretch signals the brain to start storing fat. If that were not bad enough, slumping in our chairs, especially with our heads jutting forward, leaves us starving for oxygen. Though our bodies become accustomed to the shallow breathing, it nevertheless hampers our ability to metabolize fat and produce energy. Sitting tall, taking occasional deep belly breaths, and pulling the head back into alignment so that it is setting on top of the shoulders instead of in front of the shoulders, is a simple, quick way to stoke metabolism and feel a sense of renewed alertness.
